Drunken Jacks - Murrells Inlet

Drunken Jacks
4031 Hwy 17 Business
Murrells Inlet, SC 29576

Ok, this is hands down my favorite Seafood restaurant in the US. Though, let me tell you, I'm not a huge seafood fan but having fresh caught fish definitely makes a huge difference and this is what you get at Drunken Jacks. It's located in the Marshy area of Murrells Inlet (on Business 17). This is a must place if you go to the Myrtle Beach area.

This place has a fantastic atmosphere with a deck out in the back looking over the Inlet. You can have a fine drink with some fresh popped popcorn with sometimes live music playing. Please note there is usually a wait during the summer, sometimes up to 2 hours. But its well worth it!

Now for the food. For starters you get free Hush Puppies. They are well known for these great tastes of goodness. You will see once you had your first one. Crab Cakes are a great choice for appetizers if you don't have them with dinner. Also, you must get the salad bar, which is very fresh and has all the important ingredients for your favorite salad.

For dinner, always ask for the fresh catch of the day. These are brought right into the dock behind the restaurant and prepared daily. My preference is always Tuna. Unbelievable flavor and freshness!! I also must get the deviled Crab. I can't eat there without getting this! My wife who is SC local, loves the shrimp here as well.

So, like I said this is my all time favorite seafood restaurant. It has great food, excellent atmoshphere and great service, so I'm giving this restaurant at 5 out of 5.

5 out of 5 stars!!

Zaxby's

If there is once place I have to go, when I'm in the Carolina's, it's Zaxby's. I'm a sucker for Chicken Fingers. And if Chicken fingers are a favorite of yours, then Zaxby's is the place to go. I guess they have great wings and salads and such, but I've only stuck with the Chicken Fingers or as it's spelled at Zaxby's, Fingerz. Well, that's not true, I did have a Chicken Salad sandwich once, and it was pretty good. Not as good as Chik-Fil-A but still pretty good.

What is so good about Zaxby's Chicken Fingerz? Well for one, it's the size, they are huge compared to some fast food chains and they are always made fresh. The breading on the outside is excellent. The Fries are crinkle cut and rival my most favorite fries (Culver's - a hamburger joint mainly in the midwest). The Chicken Fingerz plate also comes with Cole Slaw and 2 pieces of Texas Toast. Plus they come with the best dipping sauce, Zak's Sauce. Kinda like a spicy Thousand Island Dressing.

Zaxby's has a lot on thier menu (All Chicken of course) but the Chicken Fingerz are it, you can stop right there. Trust me on this one!! I'll review Bojangles down the road and while they are pretty good, they don't compare to Zaxby's. Check them out at http://www.zaxby for your nearest location.

Zaxby's 4 out of 5 stars!

CJ's Cakes and Catering

CJ's Cakes and Catering
315 S 5th St
Hartsville, SC
843-339-9003

Not all of my reviews will be restaurants as you will see here. If it's food related, I will probably review it. As you see my wife grew up in Hartsville, SC. When we go back there for anything, birthdays or just to hang out, I have to order a cake from CJ's. They make, hands down the best 12 Layer Caramel Cake in the World. Nothing comes close, period. They do make other cakes which are fantastic, but the multi-layer cake is the best ever!! You can't describe the goodness you, your mouth and stomach will feel once you have a bite of this cake. Just remember to make the slice small as a huge slice could send you into Sugar overload! The great thing about CJ's is they will ship their cakes anywhere in the world including IRAQ. They also make brownies, and all kinds of treats which is a must to pick up if you go in their store. And while you are there, check out the flower arrangements too.. I score major bonus points from my wife with cake and flowers!!

CJ's Cake and Catering. 5 out of 5!!

Well our first dining review at SouthCarolinadining.blogspot.com is from Magnolia's in Historic Charleston, South Carolina. This restaurant is located right near the market. This is, if not one of the most popular dining destinations in Charleston. The down south cooking served here is prepared by Chef Donald Barickman. Check out his book "Magnolia's Southern Cuisine" if you can.

There website states it's Charleston's Pioneer for lowcountry Cuisine. Being from the North, my dear wife told me all about what "Lowcountry" means. This is an area ranging from Georgetown, South Carolina down to Savannah, GA. They have their own unique culinary style and this restaurant shows a shining example of it.

I must start right away with the appetizers. Two musts for both my wife and myself our the Housemade Potato Chips and Fried Green Tomatoes. Fried Green Tomatoes? WHAT? yep.. But wait. First the chips. I am a sucker for homemade potato chips, and especially ones with Blue Cheese. Excellent combination of fresh, partially dripping with oil chips and Blue Cheese! OK, the Fried Green Tomatoes are served with Jalepeno Grits. Remember I'm from the North and I love these grits! If this is your first time in the south, please choose this App.. You will not regret it!! Fantastic!

For salads and soup, the Blue Crab bisque is outstanding! One of the best soups I've ever had times ten! I've also had the Wedge of Iceberg Lettuce and that was very nice but if I had to choose, go with the bisque!

Entree time.. Always check the specials first. My wife will usually get something off of that list and is never disappointed! Especially the seafood and something with Grits.. That'll always make her happy! Let's start with the Filet.. ordered it medium and it came out that way. While it's no Chicago Chophouse style steak, it had it's own flair and is a worthy choice. My favorite though, hands down is the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Breast. It's served with mashed potatoes, biscuits, cream corn and collard greens. A true southern meal, don't you think? I loved it all except for the greens but heck I do love the Fried Green Tomatoes and Grits!

For Dessert, the Milk chocolate Creme Brulee was fantastic!! Though the last time it was missing the cookie, or they changed it. The Cream Cheese Brownie is another great choice as well.

For the environment, there was no great view or really any if you are in the back, but you really feel like you are someplace special.. (Great for romantic dates!). The service was outstanding! Probably the best in Charleston.

So for my rating, I am giving it a 4.75 out of 5. I can't give a 5 on my first review even though this restaurant might deserve it. I might come back in the future and change it though! You never know!

Magnolia's 4.75 out of 5
